Medical Records Coder
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Performs coding of medical charts for procedures done as an Outpatient or in the Emergency Room.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Organizes, completes, and distributes all emergency room and outpatient records for coding purposes
• Demonstrates ability to code emergency room and outpatient records for billing reimbursement purposes.
• Performs qualitative and quantitative analysis on all IP, OBS, swing bed, SDS, ER and toxicology records.
• Performs clerical duties such as answering phones, faxes, release of information, etc.
• Adheres to departmental, hospital, and personnel policies
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Three years of outpatient, emergency room coding or coding classes with one year experience.
2. Human relation skills are needed for personal interaction with patients and staff, to understand instructions, medical terminology, and concepts, and to keep accurate records
3. Coding certification preferred
